The Need for Trust

In the work I do there is this need for trust. Trust in the child AND trust in the adult…

When I talk to others, the need for the child to trust the adult doesn’t seem SO foreign but the adult trusting the child often does. Why is that?

TRUST…

As a noun: firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.

As a verb: believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of

Can you believe in the reliability, trust, ability and strength of a child??

Where does trust begin?

Trust starts early on, I think even before baby is earth-side. How do we see and envision this child in-utero? What do those first days/weeks look like after birth?
Children are communicating to us from the start. It might feel so hard to figure out what their saying but when we trust, meet their needs as best we can, and let them know when we are confused we are building trust.

LANGUAGE THAT CHALLENGES TRUST (trust from you and in oneself)

What we say can unintentionally give the message that we do not trust…

Be careful

You’re to small (or big) for that.

Good Job

You’re okay

How many times do I have to tell you?

You know better

Our impact overturns that intentions we may have in a moment. Consider your intentions and ways to be concrete in your thoughts with a child.

What messages are you sending?
How can you share the message of trust while being a vessel for safety and security?
